GasTerra Admitted as 20th Member on Dutch Gas Exchange APX Gas NL
- New services for development of Dutch gas market introduced
AMSTERDAM, 14 March 2007 - GasTerra has been admitted to the Dutch gas exchange APX Gas NL today. This has been announced by both parties today at the FLAME conference in Amsterdam, one of the largest and most comprehensive gatherings in the European gas industry. The new entrance and the extension of services for the continental gas exchanges including a voice broker will boost the development of the Dutch gas market.
GasTerra (formerly Gasunie Trade & Supply) supports the concept of a gas cross point in the Netherlands. One important condition is liquidity on the TTF (Title Transfer Facility – the Dutch virtual gas trading point). GasTerra intends to stimulate short term trade on the exchange by joining the Dutch gas exchange APX Gas NL. At the same time, GasTerra meets the demands of the Dutch Parliament to contribute to the liquidity at the TTF. GasTerra has been active on the bilateral market on the TTF from 2005.
GertJan Lankhorst, CEO: “As 20th member, GasTerra will support the exchange to increase a position on the TTF, as APX can also contribute to the successful development of the Dutch gas cross-point. Although, all APX Gas NL members have a role in developing the Dutch Gas Exchange.”
APX is delighted with GasTerra as a new member of the Dutch gas exchange. Bert den Ouden, CEO, APX Group, says: “The admittance of GasTerra as a big player in the Dutch gas market is an important step in the development of a liquid and transparent gas market. In addition, the accession of GasTerra means that APX Gas NL on the TTF can develop into a market with a European dimension.”
Les Male, Commercial Director APX Group, says: “We hope that the accession of GasTerra to APX Gas NL will further strengthen the TTF, which is of critical importance to the continental gas map of Europe, building on the recent physical linkage between TTF and NBP in the United Kingdom - Europe's most liberalised gas market.
APX Gas NL now has 20 members from eight different countries, varying from international energy companies, national utilities, trade companies, financial institutions and the Dutch gas transmission system operator.”
APX sees 2007 as a crucial year for the development of the continental gas markets. In early March, APX extended its services with a voice broker; Martin Grob of Lowlands Energy Brokers is aiding the Dutch gas exchange APX Gas NL and the Belgian gas exchange APX Gas ZEE. Mr Grob is an experienced broker and is well known in the energy industry. Since September 2006, he became active as voice broker for APX Power NL on the Dutch intraday and Strips power markets.
In addition, APX Gas introduces Quote Request Periods for APX Gas NL and APX Gas ZEE during the most active trading periods of the day (9.30 am – 10.30 and 3.30-5.30 pm CET). During this period, actions are taken to increase trading activity.
