In 2008 GasTerra instituted GasTerra's Annual Transitional Energy Award This prize is used by GasTerra to encourage students in universities of applied sciences, to come up with creative ideas that could contribute to more efficient use of fossil fuels, reducing energy demand, increasing the use of renewables or reducing CO2 emissions. Total prize money of €100,000 is available, which is divided between the universities to which a prize is awarded and the student(s) who developed the idea. GasTerra hopes that this initiative will stimulate interest in the transition from the current energy supply based on fossil fuels to a completely sustainable energy economy. The company also hopes that the annual prize will come up with new solutions and perspectives on energy and environmental issues. The GTJP, which is supported by the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, will be awarded for the fourth time in 2012.
