The Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) has grown sharply in the last few years. The TTF is a virtual trading centre. This means that purchasing and selling are not coupled to the points where the gas actually enters or leaves the network, but to the total volume of gas that is tradeable at a given moment. This gas can be bought and sold many times before it is actually supplied. In other words, the volume traded is not the same as the physical volume available. The TTF is in fact nothing other than a system for recording these buying and selling transactions. GasTerra is a major player on the TTF. Various products are offered for sale, such as gas a year ahead, a quarter ahead, a month ahead and a day ahead. The prices on this market are determined by supply and demand.
