Maarten Blacquière was born in Haarlem on 28 January 1967. He joined Esso Nederland BV (ExxonMobil) in May 1989, where he held a number of positions, including cost analyst at the Esso refinery in Rotterdam, supervisor of marine fuel sales and expert in the regulation of Esso natural gas. From 2003 to 2005 he held the post of European Financial Accounting & Reporting Migration Manager, a position in which he was responsible for the migration of around eighty positions in the area of financial accounting and reporting from eight business locations in Western Europe to a Business Support Centre in Budapest.
Maarten Blacquière has been working at GasTerra since September 2005. He began as deputy Chief Financial Officer and has held the role of Chief Financial Officer since 1 January 2006. This position gives him responsibility for the financial-economic policy of GasTerra, as well as the treasury, operational audit, procurement and support services.
