By ‘green gas’ is meant gas that is produced from the fermentation of waste and manure or through gasification of biomass. This gas can be introduced into regional natural gas networks. In order to get production going properly, the costs must come down. It must become attractive for producers, such as farmers, water treatment companies and the food industry, to make green gas. In order to further this initiative, in December 2007 GasTerra took the decision to reserve 250,000 euros to subsidise the first ten ‘green gas projects’ for 25,000 euros each. A substantial reduction in CO2 emissions can also be achieved by the application of green gas.
