An every day story of...
Jan Hendrik Annema
Senior Sales Manager

What is your job at GasTerra?

I am senior sales manager in the Long-Term Markets Department. In other words, I’m in charge of the account management for a number of long-term contracts. There are three aspects to my job:

  • Contract management:
    Ongoing developments in the gas market, regulations or other aspects can materially affect the contract. Keeping the contract, files and archived documents up to date is essential and requires coordination with the relevant departments about potential contractual amendments  (for instance, in relation to legal and financial aspects).
  • Operational responsibilities:
    Establishing and maintaining contacts with clients regarding security of supply/volume-price coordination and compliance with the contract; regular consultations with the customer; invoicing; compiling reports (periodic overviews with trend analyses);
  • Sales tasks:
    Consultation and coordination on various surveys of the markets we serve; preparation of, and participation in, periodic repeat negotiations; coordination with relevant departments; analysis of price concepts.

 How did you come to GasTerra?
After graduating in chemical technology, I joined Gasunie where I did four different jobs over a period of 18 years, both commercial and research and technology. When the company demerged, the post of senior sales manager came up at Gasunie Trade & Supply (now GasTerra). I was ready for a new challenge so I made the transition from Gasunie (transport) to Gasunie Trade & Supply. I really enjoy what I do; many aspects of the work are in fact newer and more unfamiliar than I’d realised. I’d expected to make more use of my existing experience, but there were many things that were unfamiliar to me and required a lot of study, consultation and additional skills acquisition.

What do you enjoy most about working for GasTerra?
The combination of working in the office and making outside visits is something I particularly enjoy. I’ve got many internal contacts but I also make regular trips abroad. I also like the working atmosphere in the company. My colleagues are open about sharing information, and they’re helpful and enjoyable to work with. ‘GasTerra certainly isn’t a place where you stay inside your office; you’ve got to get out and find the people you need to talk to!’
