At the end of 2006 total gas stocks worldwide stood at 183,339 billion cubic metres. A third of the known reserves of natural gas in the European Union are on Dutch territory, either under land or under the Dutch section of the North Sea. Now in 2010 there still remain around 1,400 billion cubic metres.
