The market today

Natural gas plays a significant role in the energy supply today, especially in the Netherlands. Almost half of total demand for energy in the Netherlands is met through the many branched system of pipelines transporting natural gas. The Dutch gas market has been fully privatised since 1 July 2004. This means that every party in the market, from energy distribution companies to end-users, is free to buy natural gas from any supplier they choose.
